Escudo del Palacio de SoñanesBuilt beginnings of s. XVIII, barroca of civil character of Cantabria represents the more sumptuous construction. In 1719 when carredano D. Juan Diaz de Arce y Perez del Camino decided to be constructed a palace in the place that had seen it be born there by the 1665. It seems to be that it ordered for it the planes to architect Cosimo Fontanelli (whom it knew in his long stay in Italy like general agent of Felipe V in Rome), although other sources attribute to the work to the architect Francisco de la Riva.
The Palace was built around the medieval TowerEscudo del Palacio de Soñanes in which at that time D. Juan resided and who still nowadays is easily appreciable from the outside. In Soñanes forms of very diverse origins are accumulated and mixed, with clear Platerescas references and of Churriguero. Between the last inhabitants of the palace we honored to Fernando Fernandez de Velasco and Perez de Soñanes, proprietor of a splendid library.
The present Hotel Palace of Soñanes, within conserving the references barroca and mountain dweller in its architectonic style and respecting the inner design of the Palace decorated by Alpaca Trains, has introduced element modern necessary so that the service and the quality that it has offer turns it the center of cultural and social economic activities, simultaneously that participates in very active form in its image and tourist development. Perhaps the hugest and monumental palace of Cantabria, was constructed in 1722, and has been attributed to Italian architect Cósimo Fontanelli. It sent to construct it to Juan Antonio Diaz de Arce, chief quartermaster service of the kingdom of Aragón, advisor of the king and horseman of Santiago, constituting the more spectacular work barroca of Cantabria along with the palace of Elsedo.
